The paddlefish is a threatened species, which can grow up to seven feet long and weigh 200 pounds. It hasn't yet completely disappeared from Texas waters, but it is so scarce that wildlife officials felt the need to re-introducing them.
This type of re-introductions of a declining population is fairly common, but these fish will have a little something extra: radio transmitters! The transmitters are connected to transmitting towers, and every time a fish swims by one of three towers, data will be collected for about six months.
Several conservation groups have supported the effort. It will be interesting to see how there population responds.
